The task of transferring files & folders from an old computer to a new one is called migration. Migration user profile data is one of the most important task in the deployment of an operating system.
Migrating a user from Windows XP or Windows Vista to Windows 7 is considered successful when all the important data transfers from a user's old computer to the new one.

You can migrate the user profile data in either of the following ways :
- Side-by-Side migration
- Wipe & Load migration
1. Side-by-Side Migration : It is useful when you want to transfer data from one computer to another computer. The transfer requires that the two computers should be interconnected, which can be done with the help of a medium, such as cable.
Advantage of this Migration : The main advantage of this migration is that the data remains on the source computers even if it is transferred to the destination computers.
2. Wipe & Load Migration : The Wipe & Load migration is useful when you want to export the data from your machine to some external location such as USB devices.This migration is useful when you want to install Windows 7 & the direct upgrade is not possible because the system has Windows XP.
Advantage of this Migration : The only advantage of that we can store the user profile data forever in our secondary devices.
